Stolen pickup truck strikes house in St. Albans

Vermont State Police in St. Albans are searching for the operator of an stolen pickup truck that careened into a house on Lake Street Sunday night.

Police said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident in which the driver, possibly a 15-year-old-juvenile, and two occupants fled after driving the late model red Ford pickup through a yard and into 3 Lake St., police said.

A witness to the accident told troopers that the pickup was driving south on River Street at a high rate of speed when it turned onto Lake Street and veered out of control, crossing a neighbor's yard before striking the house, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Police later learned the truck was stolen from a local auto repair shop.

Reflection-
Everything that the driver did was wrong.

• Didn't have a license
• Stole the car
• He was 15
• He was drinking
• He left the scene
• Crashed into a house
  
• $5,000 dollars in damages

He obviously didn't know how to drive because he was out of control the whole time that he was driving. He wasn't using target areas because he was going all over the road. He wasn't maintaining balance in the car because he was careening around the corners. There was to much roll so it made him go off the road. He saw the house but he didn't use the brakes to stop and just went right into the house. His reaction time wasn't right because he had been drinking so he didn't know what he was doing at the time. If they catch the kid that did it they shouldn't let him get his license for a long time and make him go to AA meetings. He should do community service for the people that owned the house and pay for the damages. He should also have to help at the body shop because he took the car from there.

Warning signs- They're yellow and black and diamond shaped, they warn you of danger ahead.

Most are white squares with red or black lettering, they tell you about laws you must obey.

Depending on the seriousness of the moving violation you can get 2,3,4,5,or 10 points taking off your licence. The points stay on your licence for two years then they take them off 2 years on the day you got the points. Your licence will get taken away if you get 10 points on your licence in a 2 year period.

• 10 days for getting 10 points
• 30 days for getting 15 points
• 90 days for getting 20 points
• If there's a fatality you lose your licence for a year

For example:
2 points for illegal turning at intersections.
3 points for following to closely
4 points for failure to yield to pedestrians
5 points for passing a school bus
10 points for reckless driving

I think its a good system if it gets the people that don't follow these rules are off the road. I think it's good so that people aren't doing whatever they want so that a lot of people get hurt and or killed. The point system only works if the people get caught, if they don't then they think that they can do it all the time and then a lot of bad things happen. It seems to me that the only reason people get tickets and get pulled over is for speeding, there's a lot worse things that could happen then speeding.
